To spread some joy during my lunch break

I was supposed to be having a nice lunch out at this very moment (it’s such a beaaauuuutiful day today!!), but am stuck with a project which deadline is tomorrow (score!!) and still need to run so many tests. Do I feel like doing it? I know you can’t see me, but do I look like I even want to be here today? Hahaha, I’m sure you answered correctly. Taking advantage of my current mood, I decided to try and change it to a better one by simply writing a few lines here (such a soothing effect!!).

There are days in which you just don’t feel like being where you are, doing what you are doing, thinking about things you don’t wish to be thinking (in my case: work, tests, Latin America projects, Excel, numbers…) or putting on your best poker face and even force a smile to people you imagine just magically fading away from in front of you. HA!! How wonderful would that be?

Sometimes it’s really hard to look at the bright side of things because all you REALLY want to do is be under the sheets hiding from it all (hey, we’re all humans) or just having fun (hey, we’re all children too).

While writing all of this down, a song was running on “repeat mode” in the back of my head:

“Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dream of
Once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dream of
Dreams really do come true
Someday I’ll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That’s where you’ll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dare to…
Oh, why, oh why can’t I?”

I guess we all have our days of wishing to be somewhere over the rainbow where “troubles melt like lemon drops”, but good news! This place exists and it’s so much closer (thus much more difficult to get there) than you imagine. It’s right there with and IN you.

Just look inside and search for your own rainbow and always reach for it when troubles are around.

When she sings “that’s where you’ll find me”, find yourself, find your good side!! And the “oh, why can’t I?” is just a sudden moment… it too shall pass because you can and you will be able to do it. You’ll be there where dreams really do come true.

Should it help, sing this song (if possible, out loud) to remind you that smiles are as good as rainbows and that a peaceful feeling is just the same as the one the blue birds flying feel.
